Frequently Asked Questions

EQUIPMENT

What type of equipment does my child need to play?

Your registration fee includes a uniform kit that includes a jersey, shorts and socks which are kept by the player at the end of the season. Players will need to provide their own soccer shoes, shin guards soccer ball and water bottle.

The appropriate ball sizes are:

Munchkins – size 3

U8-U12 – size 4

U13/U14 – size 5

Are football or baseball cleats acceptable footwear?

No, cleats from sports other than soccer are not allowed, for the safety of all players.

Is jewelry allowed on players during games?

For the safety of all players, the wearing of jewelry is prohibited during games. An exception is required medical alert items which must be taped to the skin. Hair fasteners must be soft. If players intend to get their ears pierced, we suggest that they do so at least one month before games begin, or wait until the season is over.

When do we get our uniforms?

Uniforms will be handed out by your team coach towards to end of August.

TEAMS

How are teams assigned?

Based on Oregon Youth Soccer Assocation (OYSA) guidelines, recreational teams are created the Registrar and the Munchkin Coordinator using a random selection. The use of any process to roster players on the basis of talent of ability is prohibited in recreational play.

When do I find out what team my son/daughter is on and who their teammates are?

Teams will be given to the coaches by mid-August. If the coach does not contact you by August 30, please contact our Registrars Megan Lo and Amber Brown.

How many practices will we have each week?

Again this will depend on your team coach and level of play, but it will likely be between 1 and 2.

When and where will my child's team practice?

This will be determined by your coach, with the parents' input.

When is the fall season and when are the games played?

PYSC kicks off the fall 2008 season with a jamboree on Saturday, August 23rd at the Parkrose High School pitch with our regular season beginning the week of September 10th and running through October 27th for the Munchkins and November 3rd for the U8 – U14.

Munchkins will play on Saturday’s and possibly a few week-night games in the beginning of the season.

For teams U8 and above, they will typically play both week-night and Saturday games.

Where are the games and practices held?

All Munchkin games are scheduled at Lower Knott.

For teams U8 and above, PYSC is a member of CRYSA, which consists of teams from Centennial, David Douglas, Clackamas United, Reynolds, Hood River, The Dalles and Eastside United teams. PYSC home games are played on our fields within the Parkrose School District. Other games will be held at the fields of our member teams. Please check the website for a link to field addresses.

PYSC does not assign practice fields or times. We allow the coach to choose where to practice and at what time. We encourage our coaches to make it convenient for the majority of players on the team. As a club we encourage carpooling when possible.
